Wesley Diehl
I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. My interest in geology was first piqued when I found horn coral and brachiopod fossils on my first Boy Scout campout. However, my love of nature led me to study zoology as an undergraduate at Auburn. Needing additional science course work as a junior, I took an introductory geology course and I was hooked. Returning to Tennessee, my masters thesis was on the paleoecology of the carbonate Martingsburg Formation.
Four days after defending my thesis, I reported for work with Exxon Company USA in 1982. My initial assignment involved mapping and drilling production wells in South Florida. I was pretty excited when my 3rd well came on at 4500 bopd. Over the years, I had several assignments as a prospecting geologist all across the US, including a very successful horizontal drilling program in West Texas. I also spent several years in a Sales and Acquisition group marketing properties throughout the country. For the last 12 years of my career, I was an Operations Geologist performing well planning and surveillance for drill wells all around the world. Then as a Senior Technical Advisor, I advised over 50 Operations Geologists located in 17 cities across the globe. I retired from ExxonMobil in 2016.
My wife, Cindy and I have been married for 40 years and live in Kingwood, TX. Both of our sons are married and have blessed us with 3 grandkids. We love spending time on the water at Lake Livingston. I serve on the geoscience alumni advisory boards at both the University of Tennessee and Auburn University. In my spare time, I continue to be active in Scouting and enjoy researching and visiting Civil War Battlefields, primarily in the Western Theater, where a dozen of my wife and my ancestors served.
